Inspecting and rejecting food cans at high production speeds.
In this application the challenge was not only to inspect food cans passing through the system at 1000 cans per minute but to also reject them at these speeds.
The task was to verify that the correct label had been applied to the food can and that it was correctly stuck in position. A high-speed rejection mechanism was sourced and, when connected to a PLC to cope with varying line speeds, rejected cans were removed from the line with exceptional efficiency.
It must always be borne in mind with high speed applications that the amount of image processing which can be performed in very short times is limited and may involve multiple processors to keep up with production. These details are always discussed during initial project evaluation.
